Caleb’s Moment of Truth

“You are what I have become,” he told the mouse. “I feel only loneliness and sorrow.” Caleb’s words poured out of him in a clear, crisp stream of truth. New emotions filled him at the base of his vanishing torso: Empathy and compassion. Then, empathy and compassion for an abandoned, isolated desert mouse changed into love he could feel. For the first time, Caleb forgave and loved himself, despite what he had become. His miracle began. He heard a familiar voice cry, “STOP!” He was in Solé again. No gathering led by Otto had ever been interrupted, but the yelling, chanting crowd was silenced. Caleb looked up from his prostrate position to behold an unbelievable sight. It was Argo. Standing next to The Monument of Protocols with one hand outstretched in a gesture of utmost confidence, he made a proclamation:
