The Blind Serpent Shows Itself

A few months earlier he’d noticed an unusual sensation centered below his chest inside his torso. First it was only a faint itching, the size of a pencil point. It was easy to disregard at first. Over time it enlarged to about the size of a brown recluse, then gradually melted into a warmish, yeasty, expanding enlargement. Now the incubation was complete, leaving him with a transparent, two-inch square that felt both heavy and hollow and too real to disregard. The sight of his own innards, the turning, and serpentine thud-flopping troubled him. Plus, he had begun detecting the faint aroma of the Abyss sporadically throughout the day. He stared at the mirror and accepted the idea that he was vanishing.
